Thermarest – NeoLoft – Sleeping Pad

Glamping on the trail, that’s pretty much what the Thermarest NeoLoft gives you, and honestly it’s lovely. If there’s one mat where Thermarest goes all in on comfort, this is it. At 11.7 cm thick with a soft stretch-knit top, it sits closer to your bed at home than to the crinkly air mats you might be used to. The top fabric flexes a little as you move, so you don’t get that taut trampoline feel a lot of air pads have. For side sleepers and people who toss and turn, that’s the difference between waking up with a stiff back and just sleeping through.

The R-value of 4.7 insulates comfortably across spring, summer and autumn, and well into winter. The top is 50D polyester knit, the underside a tougher 75D polyester that can take a rougher surface. You inflate it with the included pump sack, and the TwinLock valve has a separate inlet and outlet, so you dial in the firmness exactly and dump all the air in one go in the morning.

All that comfort does come at a cost in weight, and for us ultralight types that’s worth being honest about: reckon on 710 grams for the Regular up to 910 grams for the Large. This is not an ultralight mat, it’s a deliberate choice for a better night’s sleep. If you want lighter, look at the XLite (or the XTherm for winter camping). The box also includes the pump sack, a stuff sack and a repair kit.

The NeoLoft comes in three sizes. The Regular (185 x 56 cm) is the lightest and narrowest. The Regular Wide (185 x 66 cm) gives you 10 cm of extra width without much more length, great if you move around a lot. The Large (198 x 66 cm) is both wider and longer, the pick if you’re taller.
