Thermarest – NeoAir XTherm NXT – sleeping mat

The Xtherm is the go-to sleeping mat for the colder season (or all year round if you are a colder sleeper). Especially now that the Comfort has also been considered, the new version now has a thickness of 7.6 centimeters. The ThermaRest NeoAir Xtherm NXT is a compact, lightweight and very comfortable inflatable sleeping mat, which is also exceptionally warm. The big difference with other sleeping mats is that this insulated sleeping mat has an insulation value of no less than 7.3 R-value. This means that your body heat is well retained and you do not get cold from below. Completely ideal in combination with a quilt. The ThermaRest insulation value can be used very well in colder times, but of course it can also be an ideal companion on our bikepacking trips all year round.

You can’t go wrong with the weight of only 450 grams in the Regular version. You can also roll up the Xtherm NXT extremely compactly and with a pack size of 23x11cm it takes up very little space. (Tip. roll the sleeping mat around your packed sleeping bag, secure it with a piece of elastic and you have a very nice compact whole -> watch how we roll up the mat).

Difference old Xtherm and the new Neoair Xtherm NXT

• The new version is even warmer due to a higher R-value of 7.3 (previously 6.9)
• The NXT is thicker and therefore slightly more comfortable. The NXT is 7.6 cm thick (previously 6.4 cm)
• This Xtherm NXT is finally a lot quieter, don’t ask how, but a big difference with the old version
• The NXT has a minimally larger pack size, when you roll it up you are almost a centimeter thicker than with the old one.

THERMAREST NeoAir Xtherm NXT: A wonderfully warm sleeping mat

How, you may wonder? Just a bit of marketing speak: the patented, reflective ThermaCapture™ technology traps radiant heat from your body, while the triangular Core Matrix™ construction minimizes heat loss. In other words, the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any sleeping pad ever. So on very cold days this mat will help you stay warm (even during winter fatbikepacking tours in high Norway), but the sleeping mat is certainly not annoyingly warm at higher temperatures.

Does the ThermaRest NeoAir By properly determining the amount of air, you can sleep a little harder or softer (you always have to experiment with what suits you best). Personally, we feel most comfortable when you lie flat on the mattress and can barely feel the ground, but if, for example, you only press your hip down, you will feel the ground. All in all, an incredible warmth-to-weight ratio, even lighter, warmer and more comfortable than its predecessor.

Small tip: to keep your pillow on the mat, we use the elastic with which we roll the sleeping mat around the sleeping bag to attach the pillow to the top of the mat.

You can easily inflate the sleeping bag with the included inflation bag. The patented Winglock valvel ensures that you can easily inflate the sleeping bag with the included inflation bag and then close. But we have been assured by Thermarest that no mold will form if you inflate the sleeping mat with your mouth / breath.
