There’s nothing quite like an Opinel. I think I was 11 years old when I got the first one from my dad on a trip to Normandy and used it for years. My current no8 was bought in a small shop in France on a holiday over 12 years ago and is still one of my favorites (the blad is a bit smaller from sharpening though). And that is why we wanted this super lightweight, easy to use and sharp knife in our shop.
This classic French pocket knife with a handle of varnished French beech and the famous Virobloc collar, which locks the blade both open (in use) and closed (for transport) is a trusted companion of many hikers. This version is stainless steel (Sandvik 12C27), so maintenance-free and corrosion-resistant, a knife that just does its job, year after year, we recommend this for outdoor use (backpacking, bikepacking etc), because you don’t have to take care of the blade as much as the carbon version
The Opinel Tradition comes in multiple sizes, but we carry the 3 most useful. The N°06 is nicely compact and super light for small jobs, the N°07 sits in between, and the N°08 is the all-round classic most people pick, big enough for bread, cheese and use on the trail. Made in Savoie, France.
