The old NU20 was a lightweight Nitecore classic, which is probably why the new one is called the NU20 Classic. We don’t fully get the name, but it’s a lovely, lightweight, compact headlamp. Fully up to date with a USB-C rechargeable 500mAh battery that puts out 360 lumens at full power. It runs three LEDs: white, high-CRI white and red.
The Nitecore NU20 is a good pick if you want an ultralight, reliable, compact headlamp. Handy for pitching your tent in the dark, reading a bit with the red light, that walk through a dark forest, or anything where you just need a little light. A nice detail is the glow-in-the-dark and reflective bits on the elastic headband.
10 modes for every task
The NU20 has a full 10 light modes (6 white, 1 softer CRI white and 3 red). The High mode hits a maximum output of 360lm and a throw of 109 metres. We find the red mode ideal for reading, for keeping your night vision, for staying low-key, and in flashing mode it works as a warning or rear light.
Simple two-switch operation
The dual switch on top of the lamp controls the type of light and the intensity. The NU20 Classic also has a handy lock mode to stop you switching it on by accident when it’s stowed (happens to the best of us, we know from experience).
Built-in battery and charger
The NU20 Classic comes with a built-in 500mAh Li-ion battery that lasts up to 95 hours of runtime on the lowest mode. Charging is dead simple thanks to the built-in USB-C port. The battery indicator shows how much charge is left, so you’re never caught out flat.
