Nitecore NU25 – headlamp (rechargeable) UL

We were already huge fans of the previous super light but very nice headlamp from Nitecore, but the new Nitecore NU25 is even better. Nitecore has looked very closely at its users who massively made the already super light lamp even lighter by replacing the headband with a piece of elastic. The new Nite Core NU25 comes in a standard version, with a piece of wide elastic and thin at the back, and a NU25 UL version, where the headband has already been replaced by an elastic cord. As a result, this UltraLight version only weighs 45 grams with elastic!!! The standard NU25 also weighs a mere 56 grams. But if every gram counts, it makes a difference. Compared to the previous version, not only the headband has been adjusted, but also the number of lumens (from 360lm to 400lm) and a slightly larger battery. You can charge this version with USB-C, which is increasingly becoming the standard.

In our opinion, the Nitecore NU25 is the ideal headlamp or backup lamp for every serious bikepacker (and every other outdoor athlete) who wants a super good, but lightweight lamp with them on her or his adventures. The NU25 was used as a backup helmet lamp at the Atlas Mountain Race and is ideal for setting up your sleeping area. But we also use the Nitcore at home with some regularity. A nice detail is the glow in the dark and reflection details on the elastic.

3 modes for every task
The NITECORE NU25 headlamp has no fewer than three light sources (Spot / Flood and red) so that you always have a good view in the dark. The spotlight has a maximum output of 200lm and a range of 58 meters. The floodlight has a beam angle of 100 degrees and 200 lumen output. The two LEDs can be switched separately or together in different light intensities. And last but not least, the Nitecore NU25 is also equipped with a red LED, which we find ideal for reading and maintaining night vision or not being so noticeable. There are even three special modes (red warning light/SOS/beacon) for emergencies and signaling!

Simple operation with two switches
The double switch on top of the headlight controls the type of light and intensity. The Nitecore NU25 also has a handy lock position to prevent you from accidentally pressing buttons when you store the lamp in your frame bag or fuel bag (happens to the best of us, we know from experience).

NU25 Built-in battery and charger
The Nitecore NU25 flashlight comes with a built-in 640 mAh Li-ion battery that lasts up to 45 hours on the lowest setting. Charging the NU25 is very easy thanks to the built-in USB-C charging port. The handy battery indicator shows how much battery you have left, so you will never be left with an empty battery again.

The best ultralight headlamp for backpacking?

Yes , in our opinion the Nitecore NU25 is currently the best ultralight headlamp you can buy with a rechargeable battery (USB).
The Nitecore headlamp is available in two versions, the normal NU25 and the NU25 UL. A good second would be the NU20 classic or the Nu21… argh choices….
