The Revelation APEX is the same quilt as our down Revelation, with the same zippered footbox that opens flat into a blanket, the same 10D nylon and the same pad straps. The difference is inside: Climashield APEX synthetic insulation instead of 850 fill power down.
Why would you choose synthetic? Because Northern Europe is wet. Down loses its loft when it gets damp, APEX does not care. It keeps insulating when the tent wall drips on it, dries in an hour in the sun and you can wash it in a machine without ceremony. The price you pay is weight and pack size: an APEX quilt is roughly 100 to 150 grams heavier than its down twin and compresses less. For bikepacking in Scotland, autumn in Scandinavia or anyone who wants one quilt they never have to baby, it is the better tool.
Which temperature rating?
EE rates its quilts at the limit temperature, not the comfort temperature. Add roughly 5 to 6 degrees for the temperature at which most people sleep comfortably. EE explains it in About our temperature ratings.
- 40°F / 4°C: summer and warm sleepers.
- 30°F / -1°C: three-season all-rounder.
- 20°F / -7°C: shoulder season with margin, cold sleepers.
Sizes
Regular / Regular fits people up to about 183 cm and is 137 cm wide. Regular / Wide is the same length but 147 cm wide. Long / Wide is 213 cm long and 147 cm wide, for anyone up to about 198 cm.
