The Care Plus water filter is a multifunctional water filtration system for hiking and bikepacking. The hollow microfibre tubes (0.1 micron absolute) filter up to 3500 litres and stop harmful bacteria and protozoa like Giardia. It filters up to 1.8 litres per minute from any freshwater lake, river or stream. You can attach the filter to the included TPU squeeze pouch, to standard disposable water bottles or to a hydration pack, or use it as a straw and drink directly from the source. The filter element comes out of the housing for easy cleaning. The whole filter weighs only 62 grams.
How does it work?
The 0.1 micron absolute filter is based on technology used in medical dialysis and consists of a bundle of hollow microfibre tubes. Water is pushed through the side walls of the tubes into the hollow centre and comes out at the end. Bacteria and protozoa are too big to pass through the walls, so they stay behind on the outside.
Good to know
Like all hollow fibre filters it does not remove viruses, chemicals or salt. In Europe that is rarely a problem in mountain streams, but in areas with agriculture or many people, pick your source with care. Never let the filter freeze, a frozen filter can crack and no longer be safe.
