You probably know X-Boil from their lovely stainless steel windshields that double as pot stands. They now sell their alcohol burners separately. These “Sicherheitsbrenner” (safety burners), as they call them, have a layer of carbon/graphite felt inside, which means much less chance of spilling your fuel. The small notch cut into the felt lets you easily pour any leftover spirit out of the can after use.
The burners give a nice stable flame, decent heat, and they’re completely silent, unlike a gas stove. You don’t need to prime them, just light them and they run at full power straight away. Easy, and very light too. The ultralight version (Ø55 mm) weighs just 12 g including 5 g of felt, the larger standard version (Ø70 mm) weighs a bit more at 17 g including 6 g of felt.
Note: always burn these cans dry before you store them.
