Bottle, pot, mug, cold-soak jar and measuring cup in one piece of titanium: the Vargo BOT HD is the 1-litre big brother of the original BOT, with two fold-away handles so you no longer need a pot lifter. Screw the wide-mouth lid on and it is a leak-proof water bottle. Flip that same lid upside down on top of the pot and your water boils faster. We have carried one for years and it is the rare bit of gear that replaces three others without a compromise.
The BOT HD really comes into its own for cold soaking. Put your couscous, noodles or overnight oats in with some water while you ride or walk, and by the time you stop the food has rehydrated itself. No stove, no fuel, no washing up beyond a rinse. It also works as extra water storage: at 98 mm outer diameter it fits most bottle cages and side pockets, including oversized cages like the Velo Orange Mojave.
The lid uses a coarse thread that can feel a little stiff at first and loosens up with use. One thing worth knowing: if you screw the lid on tight at altitude and then descend, the pressure difference can make it hard to open. On the way down, leave it a fraction loose.
Packing your kitchen inside works well too. With a 96 mm inner diameter a small 110 g gas canister sits at the bottom, with room above it for a stove, a folded Sea to Summit X-Mug or a TOAKS 450 ml cup.
