The Thermarest Z Lite SOL is a favourite among ultralight hikers and for good reason. It takes the ultralight performance of the original Z Lite and adds a reflective ThermaCapture coating that catches radiant heat and increases the total warmth by almost 15%. The heat-trapping dimples give the Z Lite SOL an R-value of 2.0, which makes it a good pad on its own in warmer weather and a great extra layer under another pad for winter camping. The patented foam is softer on top for comfort and denser on the bottom for durability. All in all an ultralight, very compact and extremely reliable closed cell foam pad.
Honestly, it takes some getting used to
Sleeping on a Z Lite takes a bit of practice and it is not for everyone, because it is less comfortable than an inflatable pad. The big advantage is that a Z Lite never goes flat. It also doubles as a sit pad during breaks and you can unfold it in seconds.
Winter tip
