Description
Tyvek, a wonderful fabric made by DuPont, waterproof, windproof and easy to use as a groundsheet for your tent, under your bivy bag, as a rug on the ground, etc. Bikepackingshop supplies the original Tyvek in a soft soft structure version (not in the hard version that crackles loudly and is used in construction, among other things). Tyvek 1442R is super light and weighs only 44 grams per m² (44 gr/m2: hence the name) and is particularly suitable for use in all kinds of lightweight applications. You can use them as bivouac bags, tent poles or peg bags, as long as you don’t put too much mechanical strain on the fabric (you can even make very nice kites from them, if you want).

No more expensive branded groundsheets needed, you can easily make your own custom-made groundsheet from Tyvek. Super light, lasts a very long time (our current Tyvek groundsheet has lasted at least 4 years and is really abused). Now available in two widths: 76 and 152 cm. The narrow one is ideal for your bivy or cowboy camping under your sleeping mat. The wider version works perfectly with most tents. . You can easily cut this soft structure fabric to size, stitch it together (with a wide stitching seam) or glue it. Also ideal in a small piece as protection against a wet butt when you sit on damp or dirty ground. Good to know, the 1442R Tyvek (formerly 1443R) is the soft version and therefore does not crackle like the old-fashioned construction film Tyvek. This fabric is much easier to roll up and fold than the stiff version.
