Mazama M!GO Bottle – 1 litre

When this Mazama M!GO water bottle was named one of the best-tested bottles on bikepacking.com, we naturally had to try it ourselves. And of course we liked it a lot, so now it’s in the shop too: the 32 oz (or 1 litre) Mazama M!GO water bottle.

The M!GO from Mazama came out of a collaboration between Miranda Webster of the YouTube channel Miranda Goes Outside!! and Mazama. What makes this bottle so unique is the double-thread design, which gives you two different-sized openings. The bottle has a standard cap (small cap) plus a second, larger threaded opening (wide mouth). Thanks to the lower opening the bottle is much easier to clean and holds a bit more, which is also handy when you want to quickly “scoop” water from a stream. Filled just below the lower thread it holds 1 litre, but fill it to the top thread and you get 80 ml extra. That may not sound like much, but there have been moments where I’d have loved that extra sip.

Because of the double-thread system the Mazama M!GO is a little longer and a touch heavier than other water bottles like the Igneous NOBO Bottle. At 29 cm long the M!GO weighs 132 grams. The bottle’s diameter is ~76 mm, just a bit larger than a standard cycling bottle (74 mm), so it doesn’t really fit a standard bottle cage. We just run the Mazama bottle on a King Cage cargo cage with a Voile strap and that works fine. This bottle also comes in a smaller 700 ml version.

Water filter compatible

The nice thing about this bottle is that it’s compatible with most water filters, so you can simply screw a filter onto it and filter your water. Because the bottle is made from LDPE it’s also nicely flexible, so you can squeeze it to push water through the filter. You can use it with the following filters: Katadyn BeFree, Sawyer Squeeze, Platypus.

Note: you can put hot water in your Mazama bottle, but using it as a hot-water bottle in your sleeping bag is not recommended. As the material softens the cap could start to leak, and you don’t want a wet sleeping bag. The bottle could go in the dishwasher too, but to be safe we just hand-wash it, which is easy through the large opening. Rinse and wash it well before first use.
