The Igneous NOBO Bottle might be the smartest water bottle you can put in your backpacking kit. Not because it’s revolutionarily complicated, but precisely because it’s brilliantly simple and well thought out.
Made from HDPE (high-density polyethylene), the bottle weighs just 64 grams (go weigh your Nalgene bottle, which is also great, and compare). HDPE is naturally sturdier than PET and leaches fewer microplastics than the standard material in ordinary sports bottles. Boil-safe too: pour hot water in, use it as a hot water bottle in your sleeping bag overnight, or boil it out in the field for extra hygiene.
What makes it really handy is the “28-410” thread, the same as the Sawyer Squeeze, Platypus QuickDraw and plenty of other water filters. Topping up from a stream? Screw your filter straight on. No adapters, no fuss.
The bottle is semi-transparent, so in the evening you can put a headlamp behind it for a soft camp lantern (that’s a pro tip). The cap has a TPU cord so you don’t lose it on a technical descent. The side has ml and oz markings that don’t wear off (unless you really try).
With an outer diameter of 81 mm, the bottle sadly won’t fit a bottle cage, but it’s fine in a larger bottle bag or in your pack for the hikers among us.
