I will not say too much about this tent, because if you landed here you probably already know a thing or two about it. If not, a quick search will show you that the whole ultralight community is very enthusiastic about this Pro version of the X-Mid. It is the tent that comes along on almost all of my trips and my personal favourite since the day we bought the first Massdrop version of the X-Mid. We have every version of Dan’s tents in our own collection and it is great to be able to offer them in the shop. The X-Mid is designed for hikers who already carry trekking poles. If you do not, you need two separate poles, for example the Z-Flick tent poles (which fold nice and short).
The X-Mid Pro 1 is made for the ultralight hiker or bikepacker who wants to shave real weight. It combines the clever X-Mid geometry with Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF) into one of the roomiest, simplest and most storm-worthy one person tents on the market and it still weighs less than a pound: 485 grams with the silnylon floor.
It is an incredibly smart design and a really pleasant tent to spend time in. The vestibules are handy for your pack, dry bags and dirty shoes. The height is good and the finish is top quality. Every detail has been thought through. The tent pitches with two trekking poles or tent poles (not included).
A lot of space in a very small package (really small: about 25 x 12 cm)
The X-Mid Pro 1 is a seriously roomy tent with more interior volume than any other one person tent. It is not only spacious for an ultralight tent, it is roomier than almost any 1P tent at any weight.
It achieves this with its space-efficient geometry, which places the two poles further apart to create 25 to 50% more interior volume than competing tents, including more usable length, headroom and shoulder room.
The floor is a generous 230 cm long and combined with steep end walls it is still 38 cm off the ground at 2.25 metres. The result is the best usable length in its class (fine for people up to 2 metres), while the floor width of over 80 cm easily takes the widest sleeping pads. You can sit upright along the whole length of the tent and even sit up with two people.
On both sides of the sleeping area there are two large, cleverly placed vestibules where a big pack and other gear fit without trouble.
The X-Mid design was born under tough conditions on real adventures, where you need a tent that just works and that capable simplicity continues in the X-Mid Pro 1. Without any marketing talk: you can feel and see that this tent was designed by someone who spends a lot of time outside and understands what works and what does not.
The thoughtful design includes an ultra simple pitch, magnetic door tie-backs for one-handed use, doorways that are not blocked by poles, large vestibules placed next to the sleeping area instead of in front of the door, a floor that lies smooth and taut thanks to the corner elastics, one-handed zippers and double interior pockets.
