Description
If nature calls… if you have to go, you have to go…., but do so responsibly by digging a “cathole”, which is optimally done with this super light “ultralight trowel” from BoglerCo. This really incredibly light scoop only weighs ~13 grams, so there’s no excuse not to throw it in your backpack. This scoop is multifunctional, because it also works well as an extra tent peg (ideal, especially in loose sand or snow, but also in forest soil). Even though the BoglerCo trowel is ultralight, that doesn’t mean it isn’t sturdy. The design makes it really easy to dig a hole, even in hard and rooty surfaces. In fact, you get a lifetime guarantee against breakage provided you use the trowel normally.
The lightweight aluminum poop scoop is designed and handmade by Ben Bogler. Ben is a very enthusiastic hiker himself and was looking for a usable but really lightweight solution for his nature calls moments. The design aims to be strong, ultra-light and functional. The plastic end cap makes digging easy for your hands, the holes in the handle provide grip and can be used to loop a guy line. The serrated edge on the tip makes it possible to cut through roots in the ground.
Fun fact: we use the Bogler trowel once when we stupidly forgot to bring our tent stakes to an overnight camping trip. We attached small sticks to some string and attached those to the tent. With the Bogler we dug a small hole for each stick to be buried sideways and that way we could sleep sound that night. Our last missing stake was of course replaced by the trowel itself. This thing is multifunctional!!
The BoglerCo trowel is lighter than the Vargo Dig dig and longer, lighter and more comfortable than the well-known “Deuce #2 trowel”
How do you use the BoglerCo trowel?
Place your palm on the 3d printed end cap and push the shovel into the ground. Then push the shovel backwards to loosen the soil. The trowel is designed to be as lightweight as possible and gets its strength from the curved shape. So make sure that you always ensure that the trowel with the U-shaped opening points forward (where the logo is) and that you push it backwards. If you push the other way, you run the risk of damage because you can flatten the U shape. So never push the handle forward to pry something loose, for example, always push it backwards.
Do not use the trowel in fire or coals, as this will damage the “heat treatment” that gives the aluminum its strength.
Leave no trace!
Relieving yourself in the wild means doing so responsibly. Therefore, dig a cathole in the ground of at least 18 cm (about as long as the trowel) and cover the ground again after a while. If you use toilet paper, take it with you (we use a small separate plastic bag (doggie poo sacks are ideal) to throw away later) or burn it if it is responsible. Read more about it at leave no trace!
