Do It Yourself Trail Coffee Filters: you can make super easy and delicious coffee on the go with these coffee filter bags.

We once received a pair of these coffee filters as a business gift and during a trip through the Teutoburgerwald we immediately fell in love with the concept. It took some time to find where we could find these filters ourselves, but we found them. And now you can enjoy your own freshly brewed filter coffee during your bikepacking trips.

How does it work?

  1. Preparation at home: Open the filter and place it in an empty cup
  2. You fill the filter with your favorite coffee. Our experience is that a reasonably strong normal filter grind is the tastiest. For optimal results we recommend approximately 12 to 16 grams. That gives a reasonable cup of coffee and not a lame cup of coffee.
  3. Now you can close the filter so that the coffee does not fall out. This is easy to do by pressing the top edge briefly with an iron. The heat causes the filter to close and the coffee stays in it.
  4. Are you on the road and want coffee? Bring your water to the boil (with your favorite MSR gas burner or old school alcohol stove), take your filter and tear off the top (if you use it with closed the iron).
  5. Open the legs and place the filter in a beaker (with a diameter of approximately 10cm, see the photo on a 450ml and 750ml titanium beaker)
  6. Pour a little warm water (not completely boiling) over the coffee and let it absorb the liquid
  7. Then pour the water on, little by little, being careful not to overflow the filter (it would be a shame to get coffee grounds in your cup)
  8. Use approximately 180 to 200 ml of water for the best results. Or a little more for a quieter start to the day.
  9. Enjoy a freshly brewed cup of filter coffee
  10. The coffee grounds are completely biodegradable, but you can of course take the filter bag itself home or to the next waste bin 😉

You can of course also simply fill the filter with coffee when you are on the road. We often take some coffee with us in a Nalgene bottle.

The coffee filters are sold in packs of 5. So there are 5 filters in 1 pack.
