Aluminium vs titanium vs stainless steel
Aluminium is the all-rounder for backcountry cooking. It conducts heat evenly, cleans up easily when hard-anodised and is very fuel-efficient. Stainless steel is more durable and shrugs off abuse, sitting somewhere between aluminium and titanium for cooking. Titanium’s big advantage is weight, it’s ideal for boiling water because the walls can be made very thin, but it develops hot spots, which makes it less suited to temperature-sensitive food like eggs or pancakes.
One thing we’ve noticed: darker pots (especially the base) are the most fuel-efficient, so older cookware that has blackened with use actually burns less fuel than new kit.
Care
Hand-wash the aluminium pot to protect the surface. The other parts are dishwasher-safe, and a liquid detergent works best.
