Hi, I’m Bas, owner of Lightweight Outdoor (and Bikepackingshop). As a child, I was fascinated by nature. I loved building forts, climbing trees, and exploring. I cherished my first backpack (a blue Nomad, much too big for me) because it allowed me to take everything I needed on my adventures.

Later, I delved into mountain biking and fell in love with bikepacking. I’ve always been obsessed with lightening my bike load (a true “weight weenie”), which naturally spilled over to other gear. In 2016, we launched the “Bikepackingshop,” initially offering bikepacking bags but soon expanding our range to include other outdoor gear.

We’re always on the hunt for ultralight and compact outdoor equipment, often finding them with small “cottage brands” abroad. In recent years, we’ve attracted more non-bikepacking customers interested in hiking, ultralight backpacking, or simply seeking quality gear not found in traditional outdoor stores. To better assist them in their search for high-quality, ultralight gear, we launched this store as a sister to our bikepackingshop.

I sincerely hope that you’ll find our products as enjoyable as I do (we’ve tested most of the equipment we sell because we’re huge “gear nerds”).
