Description
An ideal backup to have with you at Bikepacking races where you unexpectedly have to sleep outside or for those moments when you would normally just lie in your sleeping bag, but the elements are a bit more challenging. This is not a bivy for long-term use, but a perfect solution as a backup or emergency bivy. The wind- and waterproof foil reflects 90% of body heat (but is not breathable). This bivy is more stable than the foil of a rescue blanket and its closed (bivy) shape provides much better protection against the elements. The Ultralite Bivy is a perfect addition to any first aid kit.

Some tips when using the Outdoor Origin Ultralite Bivy with the Ultralite Bivy:
– The bivy is windproof and protects you against rain and snow, but does not provide protection against rain. The reflective inside keeps the heat on the body.
– Find a place protected from the wind. Do not lie on very sloping slopes (especially in snow). Bivy bags are smooth. In strong winds, make sure there are no loose branches or stones above you.
– Never lie in dry stream or river beds. If necessary, place your legs in the direction of the wind, so that the wind cannot penetrate the bivouac bag.
– Place your luggage or backpack next to your face for protection.
– It is best to store clothing in the bivy bag, as long as you have enough space. This clothing helps to form air chambers, which have an insulating effect.
– To quickly warm up the bivy bag, it helps to breathe into the bivy bag.
– But never close the bivouac bag completely when you are lying in it, because then you cut off your oxygen supply.
– A bivouac bag is also an aid in the care of injured people or their transport. In case of emergency, simply cut open the bivy bag and use it as a rescue blanket.

The nice thing about the OR Helium Bivy is the addition of a tent pole that creates a hoop at the head end. This way you have a less claustrophobic feeling in your bivy bag and less problems with condensation.
